This is a comprehensive work on jazz theory but it should be made clear in the product description that it is principally written for piano. Those with treble clef instruments such as saxophone, clarinet or trumpet etc, will not get full benefit from this book unless they can read base clef too. For example to understand complex chords covering both clefs (left and right hands on piano music) you will need to work out what the notes are on your instrument. That becomes very tedious particularly as it is on top of any transposition required for say Bb or Eb instruments. It looks good but although I screwed it into my Fujifilm X100 as tight as I could, it worked itself loose within about half an hour of use and was lost for ever in the street somewhere. The thread in my view is not a good enough fit for the X100 and I will not be buying a replacement. Very disappointed.

This book contains over 200 of the most boring and sterile photographs you are ever likely to find in one place. Charlotte Cotton also writes in an archaic style which does not make for easy reading. So it's a Thumbs Down from me.

Presented rather like an academic thesis, putting the works into categories is useful but it seems strange that the author needs to explain why each image has a place in contemporary fine art photography. To my mind an image should speak for itself. To be up there with the best, contemporary or otherwise, it needs ideally to stop you in your tracks, trigger an emotional reaction, engage the imagination or at least make you think.
