Compass Points - A Practical Guide to Poetry Forms&hellip by Alison Chisholm
This is a wonderful book, both for my personal use as a poet who would like to experiment with different forms, and as a writing tutor with a fabulous 'go to' book to recommend to students.

I read this book very quickly, both because it was wonderfully well-written and also because it evoked my fifties childhood so beautifully; although mine was thankfully without any ghosts.

Reading it at 3am this morning with a cup of tea, in a Victorian house full of creaks and shadows, I was both enthralled and terrified.

I love Tiffany Murray's books with her great story-telling and that sense you have with her writing of so many classic novels gathering behind her.

But this is my absolute favourite...until the next one.
Perfect Timing: 1 (Wordspace) by Hannah Stone

Let me be honest, I read this book before it became a book, and heard some of these poems at live events and across the table in a local cafe over the last few months. Hannah Stone is somebody I met at a poetry reading about this time last year, and heard her read for the first time then.

Sharing her poetry with such grace and wit as she does in Perfect Timing, I would say there is no other poet now who writes quite like her. She wears her learning lightly, but it glints like elusive treasure throughout her work, as does her talent for observation.

Someone to watch for the future, but more someone to read and savour in this her sparkling, first collection.
