A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
5.0 out of 5 stars David Jason is amazing!, 19 July 2013
This audio book was judiciously abridged, to contain everything I wanted and one needs from a shortened version of this classic, and Jason is amazing. A wonderful actor reading a wonderful story.
Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (Talking&hellip by Anne Bronte
2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 19 July 2013
I felt this audio version of Anne Bronte's classic was injudiciously abridged, leaving out very parts while including a long, rather circular conversation that - while a fine example of Anne's writing that is right for the full text - could have been omitted to make way for significant plot points. The two actors read very well, and I don't wish to decry them - they did make the story entertaining, and can't be blamed for the abridgement. Unfortunately I felt that their voices weren't quite right for the parts. Helen in particular did not sound young enough. Overall I was disappointed.

The other two books of hers in the series I have read are historical stories - both excellent - whereas this is straight fantasy, which I think is not her forte.

This works as a sequel to the Camlet legends. I liked this aspect, although I think Morgan is one of the many aspects the author could have done more with. It's an enjoyable tale, and a nice take on both… Read more
