This book is a must for anyone interested in the history of the Confederate Navy, or in US and British Foreign Policy during the American Civil War. It recounts how the efforts of how one man built a navy for a fledgling state against enormous odds. With the aid of funds made available by the Fraser Trenholm company, Bulloch also procured supplies and the ships to carry them through the blockade, all the while side stepping and outwitting Northern politicians and their spy network. Meticulously researched, as one would expect from authors with their specialist naval backgrounds, it is nevertheless easy to read and a welcome addition to this particular genre.
