I bought this as I wanted to record phone calls with advisers so that I could listen to the advice again. I tried to use it when I spoke to my accountant. It was a disaster. It recorded my voice, but more importantly it completely failed to record the other person. I am very disappointed with it.
Wild: A Journey from Lost to Found by Cheryl Strayed

I was disappointed by this book. I found the author very difficult to like - narcissistic, self-indulgent, manipulative, pompous and pretentious. I also disliked the writing, which I found tedious, boring, trite and extremely self-conscious. It was as if she were shouting out: "Hey, look at me, look at what a beautiful, profound insight I've just written". The author's discoveries about herself and her mother are wholly predictable. The only things I got out of the book (hence two stars rather than one star) were to read The Ten Thousand Things and The Dream of a Common Language, and perhaps to walk the PCT myself - it can't be any more painful than reading this excruciating book.

The thing I found repeatedly was that recommended restaurants were not good. I also felt that history/culture sections at the back had been copy pasted from Wiki (or something) and that the writers didn't really know what they were talking about (eg "Along with Egypt, India and China, Peru is considered one of… Read more
