Criminal: (Will Trent / Atlanta series 3) by Karin Slaughter
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. When Will and Sara were first combined in a storyline, I found it all a bit stiff and unconvincing. This book really helps to develop the characters in a way that makes their relationship believable. We finally get to learn about Will's background and the crime elements of the book are as gripping and gory as ever! I was left wanting to read the next instalment and hope I don't have too long to wait!

It was ok. I couldn't help but think that the plot took a long time to build up to anything and then, it fell rather flat. It was rather far-fetched in places and not the most exciting read in the world.

I hadn't read a Goddard before and see from the reviews that some people think his earlier works are much better. I wonder therefore, whether this book is actually an earlier work of the author that had not previously been published but which has subsequently been pulled out of a cupboard, dusted off and published to fill a hole / fulfil a contract when new inspiration was lacking? It's certainly put me off reading any of his other books.

It was so disappointing and did not, for me, live up to its rave book cover reviews. The actual plot and the outcome are both feasible and could have made for a good read but the pace is a little off. As a reader, I always felt I was one step ahead of what I was reading and the style of writing is a little amateur with quite a bit of the text serving no purpose other than to bulk out the storyline rather than to enhance it.

The author also uses a 'tell me' rather than 'show me' approach to writing creating little depth and leaving little room for imagination… Read more
