Simply; King Diamond leaves Mercyful Fate, starts this band and releases FIVE of the greatest metal records of all time in a row.
This happens to be my favourite of those five beasts.
A great place to start in the King Diamond catalogue. Andy LaRoque's guitar playing is out of this world, King's vocals are as mental as ever and 'Burn' is probably one of the best metal songs ever. Fact.
Ripping heavy metal: Check.
Evil badass album concept: Check.

I remember seeing the video for '...Sleeping Giants' a fair time ago and it didn't grab me. How tastes change 'ey? Long story short; I was round my mates; he slaps on this album; I freak out at how mental it is; I buy it the next day. Egg on my face, DEP are superb.
Totally chaotic and explosive, yet completely in control. Imagine Converge destroying a baggy of whizz whilst listening to the first Mars Volta record. Whoooooop!

Now this is a comeback album!
Easily up there with 'Tempo Of The Damned', 'Formation Of Damnation' and a hell of a lot better than Nuclear Assault's 'Third World Genocide'.
There's not a second on this LP that lets up, and the production is sweeeeet. My favourite song keeps changing, but at the minute I'll go with 'LIAR'.
