Government Girl DVD ~ Paul Stewart
Government Girl DVD ~ Paul Stewart
Breezy 1943 comedy starring Olivia de Havilland and Sonny Tufts. Tufts is called to Washington to ensure planes are made for the war effort. Fortunately for him, savvy secretary de Havilland is on hand to pave, not always so smoothly, the way for him to succeed in achieving his goal.
This Spanish release, which is the only release at present of Government Girl, is unfortunately rather on the soft side in picture quality, which is adequate enough, but my three star rating really reflects that the dvd has fixed Spanish subtitles. Personally, i find unremovable subs rather a distraction, so i guess it's another waiting game for someone else to release this film. My hope and best bet is,… Read more

I remember seeing this modest black & white 1962 drama from a screening one sunday afternoon on ITV television back in the 1970's. To my knowledge, it was never screened again. I do have fond memories of it and waited a long time to hear the news of an up-coming dvd release. Obviously, this kind of film, of which there's a brief description on the Amazon page, is not going to appeal to everyone, but if like me, you fondly recall this film and the wonderful cast of David Niven, Leslie Caron and James Robertson Justice, you'll be counting the days till February 10th, 2014. Great sleeve, too. Thank you, Network!
**UPDATE** The day of release has finally arrived! Received the dvd exactly… Read more
