Anna Petrescu, our heroine, is in the North Tower of the World Trade Center when the plane hits. She is on the trail of the killer of an old woman on Sept. 10, and investigating the theft of a Van Gogh. When she's presumed dead in the WTC, it's the perfect opportunity to hide herself. The trail takes her from Toronto to Bucharest. By the time she heads back to New York, it's clear that Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear is worth more than mere money.
