Minor plot points given in review.
This is one of the most unusual novels I've ever read, and I mean this in a good way. We've all grown up with the legends about King Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot, Guinevere, and of course, the famous sword Excalibur, but I bet no one has read this version. Mordred--Arthur's greatest enemy--was able to deliver Arthur a killing blow at the same time Arthur used Excalibur to strike down Mordred. Both of these men were destined to die. But what if instead, Merlin used his great magical power to put Arthur into a deep sleep? All sorts of interesting questions could be raised, one of which we read about in this novel.

I had the pleasure of reading the beginning chapters of A Habit of Dying when the author D.J. Wiseman was still in the polishing stages at the writer critique site YouWriteOn. At the time I remember thinking the plot an intriguing idea. I very much wanted to read the rest and was not to be disappointed when I finally got my chance. All families have skeletons in the closet and the family Lydia Silverstream begins to study after she finds an old box of photo albums is no different. Like any buried secrets however, these try to stay hidden in the dark. Lydia must all but become a real life detective to force them into giving up their secrets. In the land of Hexult, Aulf delivers the mail between a set of islands aboard the sailboat known as the Aurora. With his crew of one, a small waif of a girl named Ingar, they fly with the wind aboard the Aurora, no one around with a vessel fast enough to catch her. But in this land a boat doesn't fly over the smooth surface of water. Instead they slide across a frozen sea of ice, a white wonderland very different from the one you and I know.
