This latest installment in the Shardlake series and the best-quite a feat when an author actually gets better as the series gets on. Set in 1545 in the dying years of the reign of Henry VIII.
Mathew Shardlake is intent on finding out about the rape and burning of her home 19 years previously of a woman who he has taken a compassionate interest in at the bedlam for the mentally ill.
