Speed tested using h2testw which writes 1GB files to the drive until full and then reads back.
Writing speed: 157 MByte/s
Reading speed: 158 MByte/s
Writing speed: 28.2 MByte/s
Reading speed: 32.3 MByte/s
No significant differences were observed when running the tests on the drive formatted as FAT3, exFAT or NTFS when connected via USB3, FAT32 times listed.
The swivelling motion does seem like it could be an issue but once rotated the opened drive can be pushed backwards where it is held in place by friction so it doesn't dangle down.
Tested speeds using h2testw which writes 1GB files until the device is full and reads them back.
Writing speed: 30.9 MByte/s
Reading speed: 82.2 MByte/s
These speeds were measured with the supplied FAT32 file-system, I also ran the test with exFAT and NTFS file-systems. Reading speed was unchanged but writing speeds were 39.5 MByte/s for exFAT and 38.3 MByte/s for NTFS. So almost 25% write speed boost for the other two Windows file-systems - something to consider if you don't… Read more
The HDD arrived well packed, but lacking any mounting screws - a minor inconvenience since I managed to find some in one of my jars of screws but a stupid omission.
The HDD reported itself as full sized and I stuck it in my NAS and let it start expanding its RAID array. A day later lots of clicky noises were coming from the NAS and the management software was full of warnings about bad sectors on the new drive. So I took it out and put it in an external dock connected to my desktop. The drive was getting stupidly hot and audibly vibrating. Running SMART tests got me an estimated lifetime of 35 hours and errors beginning at LBA 485280.
So yeah not a good drive, hopefully it's just… Read more
