first can i start with...i cant believe how cheap this edition is?! i bought my copy a while ago but i'm going to get my nieces a copy because its sooo cheap and also i'm steering them towards quality classic books and trying to drag them away from badly written vampirish books.
my nieces stay with me every summer and we start a new book each year, last summer it was 101 dalmations-dodie smith and i was going to introduce Wind in the Willows this summer but i'm going to delay Wind in the Willows for To Kill a Mockingbird after seeing the price and the fact its 50 this year.

i read this with a tainted expectation, afterall i am jane austen purist, but do you know what, not half bad amanda grange! i will not go as far as saying i will purchase zombies, vampires and other silliness thats been mixed up with beloved janes work but these diaries (one of a series) are definately on the agenda now. i wont be untruthful and i did find wentworth at first a bit pompous to the wentworth i remembered but then as another reviewer says it captures the passages of his youth that we never got to see in janes persuasion. jane unfortunately never wrote enough books to satisfy this austen addict and i find that this definately sated my appetite, (for a while anyway).lol.
i recently discovered this book and found it absolutely gripping. i think i love this book for a number of reasons...
1.it is written in the original email format and have always loved novels {fictional or true} of this style, ie; letters from guernsey, pickwick papers, brigitte jones diary.
2.i am a lover of good classic literature and it has an essence of a book club within it because the two ladies make references to novels, writers and situations and plots that mirror their lives.
3.i also love books that give you insights into other peoples culture and family life and gives naughty feeling of looking through a keyhole and watching them do simplest… Read more
