I’ve been a fan of Chris Manby’s books since reading her first novel ‘Flatmates’, and although I found her last book ‘Seven Sunny Days’ quite disappointing, I was really looking forward to reading ‘The Matchbreaker’, and it didn’t let me down.

A fantastic book.
Once you work out which decade this book is set in, this book becomes a fabulous read. The characters are so well written, the plot is lively and interesting, and the whole thing was a joy to read from start to finish.

Her problems with her mother-in-law are dealt with with all the subtlety of a sledge hammer, both Ellie and her MIL are fairly unpleasant characters (both posess a smugness and superiority complex that I found bewildering), which is more than you can say for the rest of the… Read more
