Theology is often described as 'a conversation'. This book, by starting with silence, gives a new way to critically evaluate that conversation - whether it is becoming one-sided because one party is being reduced to silence, or whether there is a lot of talking going on and not much listening. Food for thought on how to 'do' theology.

This is a novel and important way of thinking about Job, a dramatic, compelling and at times baffling character in a dramatic, compelling and at times baffling book of the Old Testament.Reading this treatment of Job might make your head buzz a little like you have drunk too many brandys, but it wil be worth it.
The Stripping of the Altars: Traditional Religion &hellip by Eamon Duffy

This book is not only meticulously researched and exhaustive on all the minutiae of common piety in late medieval/early modern England, it is far more readable and absorbing than such a weighty tome has any right to be. Duffy recreates a lost world in a way that is sensitive and sympathetic - the characters in the brief sketches he can offer from the sources become real people to us. Real quality.
