Well, I come to this as a life long Conan fan, having read both the comic and then the books through my teens. I'm now 50 so it's been a long time. The 80's film is a stone cold classic and no mistake. It has so many moments direct from the books and it genuinely feels like the Hyborian age on screen. For me this had a lot to live up to and I'm sorry to say that it pretty much fails in every department except one. The film gets off to a reasonable start depicting Conan's birth on a battlefield and a youth raised as a warrior. So far so good.
