5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling story ..., 14 Feb 2014
... set mainly in New York. Events unfold in the real world, but with a touch of otherworldliness that might be fantasy or psychosis - either way, as light as a butterfly's wings. A book where the joy is in the journey rather than the destination. I initially gave the book four stars, wanting to give it four and a half, but I enjoyed it enough to err on the high side.

Well-rounded, interesting, believable characters and an unpretentious writing stile. I will seek out more of this man's work.

1.0 out of 5 stars A horrible book ..., 13 Feb 2014
... for all the reasons shown in Loup's review " - Apologia for Pedophillia".

The book posits that it is quite all right for a 23-year-old man to have full sex with a 13-year-old boy, and that society is somehow screwed up for believing otherwise. If you believe this, no amount of one-star reviews (and no amount of therapy, I guess) will make you believe otherwise. Go buy the book, or check my dustbin and you can have it for free. This book has the distinction of being the first I have thrown away.

As for the writing style, check some of the five-star reviews. I am pretty certain I recognise the style in at least one of them.

This audio story scores high in every department: writing, voice-acting, story, sound fx, score and extras.

Heading up the cast, Lee Ingleby is not in the 'star-today-gone-tomorrow' category, but is a professional, working actor in the same vein as Brian Cox and David Warner, and once again he proves his skills are transferable across the acting spectrum; film, stage and voice-acting. He is brilliant as de Nicholay as we follow him on a journey from rather naive courtier to hard-bitten man of the forest. We meet familiar names in original guises, we find that some of our preconceptions about Hood and his band turned on their heads. This is not the tired old Hood story as you have… Read more
