As a reader who has visited the incredibly moving Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Prague. I was slightly perturbed by the amount of reviews that I found with negative points about the style of this book. It may be just a personal opinion, but in actual fact, I never felt as if Binet failed to treat the subjects with the very solemn respect that they deserve. The narrative flows well and though the authors frequent self reflecting interludes did occasionally stray dangerously close to self elevation over other authors, it was not that irritating as I presumed it might have become. Overall an extremely readable novel.

Slow start initially had me doubting the wisdom of this purchase. Later on though the unravelling of the Byzantine intrigue had me glued to the story. Original and very rewarding choice of subject matter, with the decaying eastern empire making for a superb historical context.

Have loved the Lost world since receiving a heavily abridged, Penguin childrens book and casette as a child. This unabridged classic therefore brought back many childhood memories of my discovery of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and brightened up my frequent Northern Germany to Oxford drive for once! The Narrator is excellent and really brings to life the essense of the cantankerous and egotisitic, yet larger than life and secretly quite loveable Proffessor Challenger!
All in all a really good audio rendition that more than does justice to one of the most classic boys own (or girls own, of course, please pardon the over used phrase) tales of adventure.
