Spek's got this kind of young, but mature voice - certainly very obvious, and you'll recognise him anywhere, from his stuff with Nihtin Sahwney and lately with Courtney Pine.
You can tell he spent some time in the New World after being spotted when he was quite young. Not offensive, but not whiter than white either, a contradictory album coming to terms with his life, and by proxy, ours.
The "ethinic" influences seem to be there, but it's not pronounced. This is a guy who is completely at ease with his love, life and genre (choosing to defy such constraints).
