This is a slightly odd offering from Barry Unsworth; set over a single day in a near future world which is socially collapsing but recognisally 1970s England. It is written as a comedy-tragedy, there are moments of high farce and a set of bizarre and inadequate individuals populate the story line. It is short, readable and yet leaves you wondering "and...?" at the end. Not up to Mr Unsworth's usual polished narrative style, but worth the second hand price you are probably likely to be paying now.
