When Foggy arrived in series 3, the 'classic' trio was born, there's no doubting that. It seems that the first two series do not get the respect they deserve. The humour is a touch more cerebral; after Foggy arrived, a bit more of the 'slapstick' type of humour crept in. I love all the series but if you are at all hesitant to take a chance on the first two seasons, I can tell you that you will not regret it for a moment.

Boyle seems to be a damn fine cop that has no use for all the hyper-sensitivity and political correctness and all the other BS trappings of the modern police force (most of which...actually ALL of which he says have come from America...and he is right) and gets the job done better than anyone else and with less effort. All while maintaining a sense of humour and healthy appetite for the more exciting and somewhat seedier offerings of modern life. A good and healthy 'it may be illegal but it's not hurting anyone' attitude, more concerned with sparing people's feelings than the letter of the law. Which makes him, in my mind, very respectable.
