4.0 out of 5 stars Leona has a home, 9 Jan 2010
I reluctantly bought this CD. Although not overly impressed with the lead single 'Bleeding Love', it grew on me after repeated listening on the radio. There has never been any question about the quality of the voice, but the overall choice of songs could have been much more potent. Having said that, there is a track on the albumen that sums up Leona Lewis. 'Homeless' is the stand out track here: a singer's song and in my opinion, one that should have been the first single. Whitney Houston would have killed for a song like this. It certainly showcases Leona's voice and shows that, given the right material, this girl can sing.

Was Diana right to re-mix the original masters submitted to Motown by Chic? Yes and No. Both the seminal singles Upside Down and I'm coming out certainly benefit from the re-mixing and in the case of the former, the new vocals. Diana positively purrs in the lower register of her voice in Upside down as opposed to the strident and strained version of the supposed original. In fact most of the songs on the remixed version (the one we all know and love) are better. The only exception, in my opinion, is Tenderness. The extended original Chic version with the much longer bridge and guitar solo is just great.

This one's for you if you were into electronic/soul dance music of the early 80s. Just about every track is great and brings back pleasant memories of a long gone era
