There are some very interesting topics in this book. Unfortunattelly the author seem to be unable to connect the issues thoroughly. Due to that he contraticts himself a few times and he is unable to make a comprenhensive statement. If you are interested in this topic I would recommend 'Drilling down' by Tainter of 'The party is over' by Heinberg. Especially Drilling Down is a master piece.Drilling Down: The Gulf Oil Debacle and Our Energy Dilemma
This is a truely magnificant book! It is excellent in the data presented but it is perfect in its causal argumentation. I have skipped the specific parts of the Gulf and focussed on the energy problem at hand, which is the biggest part of the book btw.
Based on the reviews of other customers I expected this book to be full of horrifying stories. That was not the case. This book gives good insight in the logic of warfare why sometimes it is prudent to apply atrocity, while in other cases it might be better not to do so. For readers that are new in medieval warfare it may look very grimm sometimes but for those who have already red a lot about that topic it will be less shocking and will give you valuable new insights.
