2.0 out of 5 stars Errors in text, 17 Nov 2013
Don't buy this book for children unless you already know some German. There are errors in the text that are inexcusable and could have been corrected by proper editing by an English speaker with knowledge of German. I intended to give this to a 10-year old grandchild just starting German, but she won't get it until I have been through the whole book scribbling out the errors and putting in corrections.
The War Walk: A Journey Along the Western Front by Nigel Jones

I bought the Kindle version but was intensely irritated by the typos (there are even question marks after some of the words in the text that don't make any sense in their context), by the uncorrected lay-out,and by the lack of illustrations, so have ordered the paperback version, which does have maps. Non-fiction mostly requires pictures, maps etc, even if it is a digital version, so I'll stick to non-fiction in print in future.
Farm drainage - The Principles, Processes, and Eff&hellip by Henry F. (Henry Flagg) French

I bought this on Kindle where it cost nothing, and in the reprint version for 10. In neither edition are any of the 60-odd illustrations (listed in the printed version) to be found. While I don't need to see a picture of an augur or a tile-making machine, the diagrams would have been of help in understanding some of the drainage systems described. The text itself is extremely interesting and lucidly written (in 1859) which makes the absence of some of the diagrams referred to even more irritating. There seems little point in reprinting 260 pages of text and not putting in 60 pages of useful illustration. It would have had five stars from me if illustrations had been included.
