This is my favourite of Emmlou's albums. Every song has clarity and purity and she is in such brilliant melodious form, I could listen to it again and again. This is a multi-layered musical treat. If you are lucky enough to get a copy, treasure it.

I suppose if you are desperate for a quick stab at the basics this would help a little as there seems to be shortage of good language tutors today but I can't honestly recommend it. It belts along at a rapid pace, never keeping to the textbook, chaotically hurling words at you with no real order and expecting you to seriously ask questions of unsuspecting Italians with absolutely no idea of what their replies might mean. It is giddily silly and unrealistic. The BBC used to produce wonderful language learning books and tapes, award winning stuff like "A Vous La France" which helped a generation of kids to develop into passable Europeans. BBC Drama at its very best! Brilliantly cast with superb actors - not a weak person in it and a script which is so sharp it could make your eyes water. I found the second series even greater than the first, as the plot was more intense, more moving and had stunning climax. I am furious with the BBC for not giving us a third series. "Mad Men" has been much compared with this but that is a sprawling mass of American egotism, flaunting its retro style with less real substance or gripping story line, compared to this finely-tuned masterpiece.

It has the best selection of actors for any TV drama I have yet seen. They had to be good to hold the force of the never-flagging script… Read more
