Who Says Football Doesn't Do Fairytales?: How Burn&hellip by Dave Thomas
This is probably the finest work that the prolific Dave Thomas has written on all things Burnley F.C., mainly because it stands out as a book which the non-fan can savour as much as the committed Claret (a distinction which it shares with "A Season With Verona" and "The Miracle Of Castel Di Sangro").

It's warm, funny and witty and captures that sense of initial disbelief, which turned to wonder and then unbridled happiness, phases of emotion that every Burnley fan experienced in this most marvellous of seasons. Jimmy Adamson: The Man Who Said No to England by Dave Thomas

An unsung hero; a "player's player"; an often difficult and sometimes introverted individual; a man with an intellectual approach to football. Jimmy Adamson was all of these. His life was tinged with sadness and a sense of betrayal; albeit towards the very end there was a sense of rapprochement where Adamson felt able to go home to the club where he had made his name. This latest work from the prolific Dave Thomas captures the essence of one the greatest ever to wear the claret and blue shirt. Recommended.

It may be no coincidence that the last eighteen months has seen the publication of a number of football books which hark back to the glory days of embrocation, mudbath pitches, the maximum wage, robust tackling, mandatory Woodbines (for players and spectators alike) and autocratic local businessmen running football clubs as private fiefdoms. Whilst there is undoubtedly a market for the ghost-written meanderings of today's post-adolescent superstars, the more discerning reader desires something with both literary merit and genuine insight.
