5.0 out of 5 stars Blew me away!, 23 July 2010
Every now and then an album comes along that picks you up and shakes you in all directions...even in 2010 when the past is constantly being plundered and re-hashed and we are forever listening to 80s 'inspirations' all around...
This is one such album. The last time I had a similar experience was in discovering Baby Dee for the first time live in Barcelona in 2007... which was astounding...
No repeat listens necessary to get into this record. Having no idea what to expect when I first listened to it, I proceeded to go into the kitchen and wash up...
Having at that point not discovered The Czars (which I have now hastily rectified!) I did not expect the beautiful voice that… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, 12 Jun 2010
This has been well worth the wait. If you are already an Almond fan, some of these songs will be known to you, as he has been touring with them over the last 2/3 years. The haunting nostalgia of "Sandboy" I heard in Barcelona in 2007, and "Lavender" "The trials of eyeliner" and "Soho so long" were all part of his last Wilton's Music Hall concerts in 2008, which you can buy on DVD. Of the tracks that I hadn't heard the standout for me is definitely "The Exhibitionist", a dark and brooding track about those who dare to be different.
The album as a whole is typical Almond in its subject matter. He has created the album that we all wanted it to be. It is an absolute treasure, as is he.

Mixed reviews abound.... You can't please everyone... ain't that the truth.. But comments like "they used to lead and now they're following", etc are really missing the point. Goldfrapp hate to repeat themselves and what they have done here is made an album of slick pop songs with catchy, upbeat, feelgood melodies with an 80s nod... They have changed yet again. Another string to their bow and more fun for Alison and Will to have playing live... It's as much for them as it is for us! You can't have "groundbreaking" records every release. This record is about fun! and they do it so much better than anyone else! Let them have their fun... and let us join them on the ride! Where will they take… Read more
