This is a good adaptation of a unique thriller, based on a book by S.J. Watson. The acting is excellent and the story line follows the book fairly closely. With a book of course there is more scope to elaborate on, and justify, the plot. In the movie a few points are questionable.

Set in Southern England, Christine (Nicole Kidman) is an amnesiac who, following a historic 'accident' wakes each day forgetting everything that happened in the last 24 hours. With such a stellar cast I expected more than the film actually delivered.

The acting was good, characterisation was good but the script didn't quite deliver the goods. I'm not sure why? The plot and idea was great. Maybe it was that the characters didn't really gel or the dialogue failed to convince me.

It certainly wasn't up to some of it's peer films such as Shirley Valentine and Educating Rita

But worth a view.

This is a very specific genre film and if you're a big fan of (1930s- 50s) traditional US country music then the film really hits the mark.

But beware, for anyone else, it is a seriously weird and quirky film. Described as off beat, it's a slapstick rendition of three very dim convicts on the run in Mississippi in the 1930s.

I have to confess that whilst the music was a great representation of that era, nothing else in the film appealed to me. But in fairness, that's purely my taste and no reflection on the quality of the movie.

But don't expect anything normal!
