This movie had a great review in the local paper so I gave it a go.

The original Planet of the Apes had a lot going for it in it's day - it was a new idea with a great storyline. But since then, technology has intervened and producers have surrendered credibility and storylines for whizz bang special effects. And in that department this delivers the goods. The Special Effects, the make up, animation and computerised scenes are fantastic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight B picture, 13 Aug 2014
This DVD had lots of promise with a fantastic all star cast, even in the minor roles.

But, oh dear, what a lightweight production! The acting was passable and I suppose it would have made a reasonable children's movie. But the whole thing was... yawn. It rather reminded me of the B pictures of the 50s and 60s.

And worst of all, there is a huge flaw in the storyline which made a nonsense of the plot. How could that happen?

I confess that I did watch it until the end, so it couldn't be all bad. Unless that was just me being tight as I'd paid the rental?

The comedy takes the form of a reality interview. A look at six disparate couples and all played by Brydon and Davis. Some of the humour is cutting, droll and near the knuckle. I was quite captivated for the first three episodes. By the fourth the formula was wearing a bit thin as the humour started to chaff and depress more than amuse. Maybe if there had been more differentiation between the characterisation in the later episodes it would have enhanced the series? It started to become a little sad rather than… Read more
