wait for me cd ~ Jubilant Sykes
I bought this CD for two reasons. Firstly I had the CD of Jubilant Sykes singing Bernstein's Mass which is truly wonderful. Secondly it was cheap on Amazon. But just over a pound is not a bargain when you have to listen to this. Mr Sykes has a lovely voice but he has made bad choices (or been given bad advice) as to songs and arrangements. This CD is composed of over-produced songs in artificial sound and at totally the wrong tempos. Just listen to "It as might as well be spring" - it's impressive that Mr Sykes can hit the notes so well as it's too slow and too contrived but the overall effect is painful.

Is this really seven discs for 350 minutes worth of programmes? I remember watching this series on television and it was very good indeed. Have they packaged it as one 50 minute programme per disc and totally over-priced it?

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 23 April 2008
When I began this book, I thought it was pretentious, then I got to like it more, but eventually I was really disappointed. If you didn't live though an event like the Second World War, I believe you have to write something really special to justify the use of the tragic events in your fiction. Though beautifully written, this isn't as effective and brilliant a war novel as, say, Schindler's List. Best thing about this book was to encourage me to re-read The Tin Drum - a genuine masterpiece and a child's view of the Second World War, written by someone who experienced it.
