In a world dominated by artificial-manufactored-reality tv "music," it is hard to think that there may be quality music that is still being made these days. There is - you just need to look beyond mainstream media.
Tift Merritt, is a real artist. She has it all: looks, singing ability and songwriting ability. This is her second offical album. Her first 'Bramble Rose', was a classic debut and one of the best albums from 2002. Even though it had critical acclaim it went largely ignored. That album was in the vain of a country/rock album that Emmylou could have recorded in the 70s. Tift has evolved from that sound with this album.

The album opens up with a… Read more

In my opinion; going from the strength of voice and debut single, Julie is the pick of the bunch. Her voice is deep, rich, soulful with good range, and she is not unlike Faith Hill in looks. On paper she has it all, but is the album any good?
She has gone for the mainstream country sound of pop uptempo rockers, traditional sounding midtempo songs and the big ballad sound that plagues mainstream country. So there is a good mix on the album that accompanies any mood. It's not ground breaking music, some of it fun and some serious. The lyrics sound very mature… Read more
