First of all, there are fewer episodes.
Secondly, the stories are of very mundane, everyday challenges with very little depth to the stories or outcomes. We found ourselves quite dissatisfied, asking 'So what....' after each episode.

This box set was quite a let down.
First, the plots were implausibly complex - but I suppose that's just Lynda La Plante.
Ciaran Hinds' overacting was overdone, and there were inconsistencies in the character he played. For example,he chastises one of his staff for arguing in front of others, yet his own handling of his staff is terrible.
Kelly Reilly comes across as an immature schoolgirl, yet manages to reach the rank of DI during the series.
Very clumsy stuff.
Now Broadchurch - that is classy British crime drama.

Wallander is addictive, as most Scandinavian crime dramas are. The characters are very believable, and the acting is the usual Swedish subtle, not overdone, performances. Very, very enjoyable.
