Kitchen Garden Estate: Self-sufficiency Inspired b&hellip by Helene Gammack

Kitchen Garden Estate provides an abundance of information on the traditional methods of food production on large country estates with fascinating detail about what went on in brew houses, potagers, dairies and dovecotes, to mention just a few sections. Unusual recipes such as Medlar jelly, Lady Wentworth's quaking pudding no.2 and how to make your own beeswax polish, are sprinkled throughout along with beautiful photographs and illustrations.
Elegantly designed and written with great enthusiasm and attention to detail, this is a book to keep on dipping into........as I have. A perfect present to give or receive.

One of Geraldine McCaughrean's many talents is to put familiar words together in a way that feels fresh and new - even though many of these stories are old favorites. The combination of much loved and less well known fairy tales results in a book to keep you going back to read and re read.

Sophy Williams' pastel illustrations are evocative and beautiful with some of the best ones hidden well inside the book. Each of the 20 stories has it's own colour scheme and the book feels substantial and well produced. My children love it.

My two boys love this book - it has swords and knights helmets but ultimately it's about learning to care for a fellow creature - perfect bedtime reading for young boys and girls. The pictures are brilliantly composed, expertly painted and and full of character and humour. Definitely a favorite and the best thing is that there are three more in the series!
