5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful audio book, 11 Nov 2013
This was the best audio book I have ever listened to - I had planned to make it last a few weeks as bedtime listening, but devoured all 32 hours of it in a week. I finished this morning and will probably go right back to the beginning. I enjoyed The Secret History but wasn't as wild about it as some people - but I really loved this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very evocative, 15 April 2012
I would have given this five stars, but for the completely misleading blurb on the back cover. As others have mentioned, the blurb suggests that this will be something Wallander-esque, and I have to say that this is why I picked it up. It's nothing at all like that, but I still really enjoyed it, as I am fascinated by solitary people, creative people, introverted people, and this story definitely explores this type of personality in an extremely remote setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical, 14 April 2012
This is a truly wonderful book. I thought it would take me days and days to read it, but I couldn't put it down. The quality of Sebald's writing and Hulse's translation is stunning, and the unfamiliar references are simply not a problem - I found everything I needed on the internet in a matter of seconds. I loved it. I've only just discovered his writing, and will definitely be reading everything else he wrote.
