I read this book at the beginning of 2008, just after Northern Rock but before the truly seismic events that followed. As the year unfolded & more financial institutions became fatally exposed, I was constantly reminded of "The Gods That Failed". The authors had successfully seen beyond the lies of "The New Olympians" (or "Masters of the Universe" as they preferred to call themselves) & had prophetically mapped out the consequences of such unfettered, reckless greed. It's worth remembering that the book's subheading is "How blind faith in markets has cost us our future". How often have we heard similar comments in the last few months?
