I didn't entirely understand this book, as it was written through the eyes of an incoherent madman, yet I shall excuse the incomprehensibleness due to the fact that this is Golding, the genius who builds up a stroy through great detail and at almost a painstakingly slow pace. The gist of the plot is that Jocelin was blinded by faith to the point of obsession. This does not seem to me to be a cyncical interpretation of religion on Golding's part; rather, a stduy into the selfishness that obstinateness and obsession bring.
