3.0 out of 5 stars Get Me To Higher Ground, 26 July 2014
Maybe this is a sleeper and the more I play it the more it'll become interesting and worthy. But at the moment it feels like a week in the valley where the heat never lets up and the air never moves - sultry, sleepy and totally wiped out. I know that's part of the whole Lana Del Ray retro dream world, but I could've done with a few energy shots or sudden winds to drag me through it all. The Canyons is a tale about the dependent and the controlled, deceit and betrayal in a post cinematic world of eroded certainties and streaming paranoia.Lohan is very good as the ennui ravaged central female character in the film's web of obsessive digital interplay, and Deen is convincing as its menacing, manipulating force. The stripped down You Tube self-consciousness of the narrative, although… Read more
