In My Own Words:
I love music (from classical to indie), movies (mostly indie and foreign), and books (non-fiction, and memoirs in particular), and I love writing about these. I also very much enjoy the performing arts, in particular the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Ballet, the two jewels in the rich arts community in Cincinnati, and of course going to see bands in concert. And last, but certai… Read more

Dynamics ~ Holy Ghost!
Dynamics ~ Holy Ghost!
I recently saw Holy Ghost! in concert for the first time (more on that later). If you are not familiar with the sound of this New York band, think !!!, Cut Copy or even LCD Soundsystem (RIP!). This is the band's second full-length studio album.

"Dynamics" (11 tracks; 50 min.) starts with a more than okay "Okay", in which band mates Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser immediately turn up the dance grooves. Then comes the epic 8 min. "Dumb Disco Ideas", which is sure to get any wallflower to bust a move or two. Resistance is futile! "Dance a Little Closer" is yet another high-energy dance tune. The guys slow things down a bit in the middle of the album… Read more

Hello Memory [VINYL] ~ Little Daylight
I recently saw Little Daylight in concert (more on that later). Little Daylight is an up-and-coming indie band (on a major label, though), with a pleasant synth-driven sound not unlike, say, fellow New Yorkers Chairlift. In the run-up to the release of their debut album, they’ve release a couple of tracks, including 'Overdose', the band's 'signature' song. Now finally comes the full-length debut album.

"Hello Memory" (10 tracks; 38 min.) starts off with a breezy "My Life". Then comes the already mentioned "Overdose", which remains as fresh as when it first popped up last year. Front woman Nikki Taylor's lead vocals shine on "Love Stories". Side A… Read more

A Bad Girl In Harlem ~ New Politics
I recently saw New Politics in concert (more on that later). If you are unfamiliar with their sound, think Green Day but updated for the 21sts century. This is New Politics' second album.

"A Bad Girl in Harlem" (10 tracks; 33 min.--the US version does not come with the extra tracks) starts off with an infectious "Tonight You're Perfect" and the party is on! "Harlem" is another sing-along stomper. "Berlin" is an ode to that city (you might've expected an ode to Copenhagen, as the band originates from Denmark). "Stuck On You" is a piano-fronted ballad and one of the few moments where things slow down. Side A concludes with a rousing "Give… Read more
