The Chessmen (Lewis Trilogy 3) by Peter May
5.0 out of 5 stars The Chessmen, 14 April 2014
Excellent book - so sorry it is the last in this trilogy of stories set in the outer Scottish islands. Needed a map to negotiate the geography though.

Things are changing in occupied France - Germany isn't doing too well in the east in the Soviet Union and the occupying powers and those that help them are starting to wonder what will happen when the war is over. Both Llannes's sons have made different choices regarding their allegiances, although both regard themselves at French patriots, and his daughter is learning how painful first love can be. However, it is the same old same in content as the first two in this trilogy. Nasty goings-on with young boys and girls and Llannes trying hard to deal with the shifting political situation. Nothing really gets resolved so I hope there is a 4th book to come.
