Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues [DVD] [2013] DVD ~ Will Ferrell
3.0 out of 5 stars Middle of the road..., 6 Jun 2014
I didn't much care for the original Anchorman the first time I watched it. I thought it was vapid; a weak humour-fest at best. Since that first screening I appreciate I may have been in a bad mood at the time, many of the set pieces and one liners are truly sterling pieces of comedy.

Anchorman 2 generated the similar feelings to that inaugural viewing of the first installment (doubtless there will be a third...), though the film seemed to have a little more structure and a slightly bigger budget. I understand it may be cliché to rave about this film - the hype and media attention it has received are typical of a flick that is all-the-best-bits-in-the-trailer (thanks "Knocked Up" for defining that genre). Let me be clear: I do not like Richard Curtis films. Let me be clearer still: About Time is an outstanding movie. Truly, genuinely, outstanding.

The truth is I had put off seeing this one for some time; I'd seen the best-jokes-in-the-trailer plug on primetime TV. My wife badgered me for several weeks telling me how she wanted to see it - when she mentioned the C-word I quietly swore not to get involved. The pestering continued and begrudgingly I relented and off we went. I'd had a rubbish day at work, bound to get worse still if old Richard had anything to say about it. Imagine my surprise 10 minutes in. I was enjoying it. I mean, really enjoying it. Let me explain… Read more
