Ding Dong Dollar: Anti-Polaris and Scottish ~ Glasgow Song Guild
From the brilliant Folkways this is as important a piece of Scots cultural history
as the Alan Lomax albums.

The decision to sight Polaris in Scotland in the early 1960s led to a wave of protests: a growth of CND activities, and the linking of the new left, nationalism and folk music. And this led to a whole swathe of songs being written and appropriated for protest and opposing Polaris.

This is a gem of an album capturing some of those pieces of our history: We Dinae Want Polaris, The Polis o Argyll, and Camp in the Country. A delight from beginning to end.

I was moved to write a short review of this having seen the two star review.

This is a beautifully put together and crafted album: a joy from start to finish, with the Caetano tracks and who covers them carefully chosen.

What is delightful about this album is the combination of Brazil's current stars - Seu Jorge, Ceu - with tasteful Western stars. A loving exploration of Caetano and Brazilian music.
