5.0 out of 5 stars Just superb, 1 Oct 2013
Quite simply the most enjoyable book I have read in ages. Not only is it uproariously funny but it is brilliantly written . Mr. Morgan-Grenville has the most wonderful use of the English language. Be it lamenting another very short innings, hilariously describing the Grenadier`s bowling or using cricket bats as humane killers, I have laughed out loud wherever I have been. And as for the French cricketing terminology, it would even put a smile on Gordon Brown`s dour visage. Read it now and brighten up your darkening winters evenings with unrestrained laughter. A joy.

His descriptive ability is unequalled as he evokes the harshness and bluntness of disaffected youth. The exhilaration of joys and despair of regrets that the characters all face is so brilliantly portrayed. The scams that make you cry with laughter and despondency that makes you want to cry. No-one writes quite like Irvine Welsh and no one can match his style to equal him. Put down your Hilary Mantel and Ian McEwen. This is the gadge you should be reading. And I thought Trainspotting and Porno were brilliant...
