I bought this immediately after finishing The Reef. But while the characters are Sri Lankan, it's mostly set in grey UK. I didn't like the characters or find them that interesting and gave up about one-third of the way through. But The Reef was so good I may try another by Gunesekera.

I loved this book, and I also appreciated several of the reviews on Amazon. I read it very quickly, but in many ways it is not an easy read. You getting lulled into a warm fuzzy feeling, and then there is a sentence which shocks. I am not sure I can explain why, but at times it made me think of a Sri Lankan Great Gatsby, but recounted by a servant. If you know Sri Lanka, read it!
The Perfect Murder: The First Inspector Ghote Myst&hellip by H. R. F. Keating
2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 7 May 2014
With an Alexander McCall Smith endorsement I had high hopes. I was expecting old-fashioned charm. But it's slow and the plot isn't convincing. I won't be trying any more in the series. (Possibly racist too.)
