Aston Villa: On Cigarette and Trade Cards by Derrick Spinks
As a newcomer to collecting these cards, I was delighted to stumble across this book and hoped it would be a definitive guide to the Villa cards published down the years. Perfect for a newby collector like me. Sadly, it is not that sort of book. It is a photo album of the author's own collection, but with no - and I mean no - annotation. There is no info on the illustrated cards at all, for example no year of issue, no indication of whether a full set of Villa cards is pictured, and no knowing if there are other sets out there which are not in the author's personal archive. Sifting through the preview, the author boasts of how many books he's read, people he's met, how much he's written and so on. You might think that if he wanted to write such smutty bit of garbage about people he never knew, he may at least know the basic facts. So this is the FIRST paragraph he writes:

"Since the early 1960s every man and his dog have written about a rock group from Liverpool that made it big. [Really? Really pleased with this after a few months use. Simple, light, easy. No fuss, no problems. Can't say much more! Does what you'd want it to do.
