Reading Basics

You can turn pages, add bookmarks or notes and highlight text while you are reading Kindle books, just like with print books.

View Books, Magazines or Newspapers

You can turn pages, add bookmarks or notes, and highlight text while you are reading Kindle books, newspapers and magazines.

  1. Turn pages – Press the Next Page button to go to the next page. Press the Previous Page button to go to the previous page.
  2. Go to different locations in the book – Press the Menu button, and then select Go to.
  3. Look up a word in the dictionary – Use the 5-way controller to place the cursor in front of a word to show the definition.

View Your Reading Progress

While you are reading, you can view pages read or the percentage of a book read on your Kindle.

While reading, press the Menu button and track your reading progress in the bottom of the screen:
  • Percentage of book read
  • Page Number
  • Location in book

If the Page Numbers Source ISBN (the print book identification number) listed under Product Details on the product detail page is the same edition as your print book, the Kindle page numbers will match the page numbers in the printed edition.

Change Fonts, Line Spacing or Margins

You can change the fonts, font size, line spacing or margins of the page display for a Kindle book.

Note: The text size of menus and other screens is fixed and can't be modified. You can't change the text appearance of PDFs.

While reading, press the Menu button, and then select Change Font Size.

You will be able to adjust the font size, typeface, line spacing, words per line or screen rotation.
