Kindle Fire & Amazon Prime

About Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime is an annual membership programme that offers customers unlimited One-Day Delivery on millions of eligible items sold by Amazon.co.uk. Eligible customers who purchase a new Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD will be given a free month of Amazon Prime.

Kindle customers who avail of this one month free trial will also have access to the Kindle Owners' Lending Library for the duration of the trial.

The Kindle Owners' Lending Library allows eligible Amazon.co.uk Prime members who own Kindle devices to choose from thousands of books to borrow for free -- including current and former top sellers in the Amazon.co.uk Kindle Store -- as frequently as a book a month, with no scheduled date for return. For more information, visit our Kindle Owners' Lending Library page.

Who is eligible?

Customers who have not used Prime over the past year will automatically be given a free month of Amazon Prime when they first activate their new Kindle Fire. If you're already a paid or free trial member of Prime when you register your device, you'll be able to seamlessly use your benefits without interruption or changes to your membership.

Starting your free month of Amazon Prime

Kindle Fire / Kindle Fire HD: Software Version 2.0 or Lower

If your Kindle Fire / Kindle Fire HD is running software version 2.0 or lower, your free month of Amazon Prime starts automatically when you first activate your new Kindle Fire. You will receive an email confirmation of your one month free trial. There are no charges and no credit card is required to enjoy the free month.

You may also sign up for a full Prime membership at any time during your free month of Prime at www.amazon.co.uk/prime. If you don't sign up for a full Prime membership, your annual Prime membership will not start and you will not be charged at the end of your free month of Prime.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and Kindle Fire / Kindle Fire HD: Software Version 2.1 or Higher

If you're using a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" or a Kindle Fire / Kindle Fire HD running software version 2.1 or higher, you'll see a Prime screen on your Kindle device during the out of the box setup, which will give you the option of signing up to a one month free trial of Amazon Prime.

This one month free trial converts to a paid annual Prime membership at the end of the trial period.

If you do not wish to avail of the annual Prime membership, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Manage Prime Membership page
  2. Under Membership information, click the Do not upgrade button
  3. On the next page, click the Turn off auto-upgrade button

You will continue to enjoy the benefits of your one month free trial, but the trial will not upgrade automatically to an annual Prime membership.

Giving Kindle Fire as a gift
