Getting Started with Amazon Appstore for Android

Installing Amazon Appstore for Android on Your Device

If Amazon Appstore for Android is not pre-installed on your device, you will first need to install it.

Amazon Appstore for Android is generally compatible with all Android devices that run Android version 2.2 or greater.

Note: If your device has Amazon Appstore for Android pre-installed, then it is part of the device's default software and cannot be uninstalled.

Setting Up Your 1-Click Payment Method

To download apps from Amazon Appstore for Android, you must have an Amazon account and set up your 1-Click payment settings. Your default payment method can be a Gift Certificate with a valid balance (over £0.01) or a valid credit card.

To create an Amazon account:

  1. Visit www.amazon.co.uk/sign-in
  2. Enter your email address and select "No, I am a new customer".
  3. Click the Sign in using our secure server button and follow the on-screen instructions.

To set up your payment method:

  1. Visit the Your Account page and select "1-Click Settings" in the Settings section.
  2. Click the Edit button next to "No default payment method set".
  3. Enter a new address if an existing address is not available.
  4. Select "Click here to make this your 1-Click default address".
  5. Click the Edit button next to "1-Click Settings for this address" and enter a payment method.

Note: Amazon Appstore for Android is only available to customers in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Isle of Man, Guernsey, the Republic of Ireland or Gibraltar from Amazon.co.uk.

Using Gift Certificates or Promotion Codes

To purchase an app using an Amazon.co.uk Gift Certificate or promotion code, you must first apply your claim code to Your Account before a purchase is made. Any Gift Certificate balance available in your account will be automatically applied to your purchase when it is completed. To add a Gift Certificate to your account:

From your computer:

  1. Visit Your Account and click Apply a Gift Certificate to Your Account.
  2. Sign in with your e-mail address and password.
  3. Enter your claim code and click Redeem now.

From your mobile device:

  1. Launch Amazon Appstore for Android from your compatible device.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap Gift Certificates
  5. Enter your claim code and tap Redeem.

International Availability

At this time, Amazon Appstore for Android is available for customers located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Isle of Man, Guernsey, the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar from Amazon.co.uk.

To successfully purchase digital content from Amazon Appstore for Android, the 1-Click payment method listed in Your Account must be a credit or debit card issued by one of the following countries with a valid invoice address.

  • United Kingdom
  • Jersey
  • Isle of Man
  • Guernsey
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Gibraltar

Finding Free Apps and Deals

Amazon Appstore for Android users can download a new paid app for free every day. In addition, Amazon Appstore offers a variety of deals.

To access free apps and deals from your mobile device, launch the Amazon Appstore for Android app. If available, the Free App of the Day and other deals will be displayed on the Home screen. You can also see a list of the Top Free apps in the "Best Sellers" category.

Making Your Apps Available in Amazon Appstore for Android

You can submit your apps for inclusion in the Amazon Appstore for Android by joining the Amazon Appstore for Android Developer Program. Visit http://developer.amazon.com/welcome.html and create a new account. You'll be able to follow step-by-step instructions to create an account and upload your application and media files.
