These directives cover disposal of WEEE and waste batteries because these items may contain hazardous substances which, if exposed, may have a serious detrimental effect on the environment and health. WEEE and waste batteries must be specifically collected and treated by designated local waste facility centers and by collection schemes authorized by governmental authorities. Do not discard these items with general household waste. Collection SchemesAmazon has joined the following UK collection scheme for WEEE and waste batteries: ERP UK Ltd the UK operation of European Recycling Platform (ERP).http://www.erp-recycling.co.uk/ WEEE and waste batteries can often be disposed of free of charge at local municipal collection points. For more information about where you can drop off your WEEE and waste batteries near you for recycling, please go to the online search facility of Valpak (a take-back scheme officially approved by the government) at www.recycle-more.co.uk, or (for battery recycling) to ERP's search facilities at http://www.erp-batteries.co.uk/.
