What is the Kindle App?

The free Kindle app lets you read Kindle books, newspapers, and magazines on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch: no Kindle required. Kindle for iDevice app version 3.3 can be used on any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with OS 5.0 or higher installed. If you are using an operating system older than 5.0, we recommend you do not uninstall the Kindle app you currently have on your device as later editions of the Kindle app may not install correctly.

What is the latest version?

The latest version of Kindle for iOS is 3.8. This update includes:

  1. Multi-Page Highlights
  2. Line Spacing
  3. Higher maximum font size selections
  4. Notebook Filtering in Print Replica Textbooks

To check your version, tap the Info icon in the lower right corner of the app home screen, then tap About. You can download and install the latest version for free from the App Store. Please note, Kindle for iDevice 3.8 is compatible with iDevices using OS 5.0 or higher only. If you are using an operating system older than 5.0, we recommend you do not uninstall the Kindle app you currently have on your device as later editions of the Kindle app may not install correctly.

Why can't I install the latest Kindle app

In order to offer new and enhanced features on Kindle for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the minimum requirement for Kindle for iDevice is OS 5.0 or higher. If you are using an operating system older than 5.0, we recommend you do not uninstall the Kindle app you currently have on your device as later editions of the Kindle app may not install correctly.

How do I register the application to my Amazon account?

To register, first launch the Kindle app. Enter your Amazon.co.uk account e-mail address and password to access your existing Kindle Library. You can change the registration details at any time by tapping on the settings icon in the bottom right corner of the Home screen and then tapping the information icon. You can also manage your registration on the Manage Your Kindle page.

How do I buy and download books to the Kindle application?

For iPad: On your iPad, open Safari and go to www.amazon.co.uk/ipadkindlestore.When you find a title and tap Buy, choose "Read in app" to read the book in your iPad reading app.

For iPhone or iPod Touch: On your iPhone or iPod Touch, open Safari and go to www.amazon.co.uk/kindlemobilestore. When you find a title and tap Buy, choose your Kindle reading app from the drop-down list, and then tap Go to Kindle for iPhone.

You'll need to make sure you set up your payment method if you're new to the Kindle Store.

What files are compatible with Kindle for iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch?

Books and some subscription content purchased from the Kindle Store can be downloaded or delivered to the Kindle app unless otherwise noted on the product detail page. If you already have books in your  Kindle Library you can download them by tapping Archived Items on the Kindle app Home screen and then tapping the cover of your book. With Kindle for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch 2.9 and greater, you can send personal documents (including PDFs) to your app using your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address or you can download archived personal documents directly from your Kindle Library.

How do I archive books to free up memory?

We store the content you buy in your Kindle Library on Amazon.co.uk so you don't have to store them in your device's memory. Removing Kindle content from the Kindle App or uninstalling the app does not remove purchased items from your Kindle Library stored on Amazon.co.uk - you'll still be able to access your content.  To remove individual items from the device, tap and hold the cover of an item, and then tap "Remove from device."

How do I sync my bookmarks and reading progress across devices?

Whispersync automatically synchronizes your bookmarks and your reading location among devices registered to the same Amazon.co.uk account and is enabled by default. When you open a Kindle book you're also reading on another device, you can easily pick up where you left off.. To manually sync, tap the centre of your screen to activate the toolbar then tap the Whispersync icon (circular arrows at the end of the toolbar).
