Installing the Amazon MP3 Downloader
About the Amazon MP3 Downloader
The Amazon MP3 Downloader is software you'll use along with Amazon Cloud Player to manage your music. The Downloader is a piece of software that works with your system's web browser to download entire albums or playlists and automatically import them into iTunes or Windows Media Player.
Installing the Amazon MP3 Downloader for Windows
System Requirements: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
There are 3 ways to start the process of installing the Amazon MP3 Downloader for Windows:
Installing After a Purchase: After you complete a purchase, click Download to your computer from the Thank You purchase page. If the Amazon MP3 Downloader is not already installed, you will be prompted to install the Amazon MP3 Downloader. Click Install the Amazon MP3 Downloader, then proceed to step 2 below.
Installing from Cloud Player for Web: Log in to Amazon Cloud Player, then check the box next to the songs you want to download and click Download. If the Amazon MP3 Downloader is not already installed, you will be prompted to install the Amazon MP3 Downloader. Click Install the Amazon MP3 Downloader, then proceed to step 2 below.
Installing from the Amazon MP3 Downloader installation page: If you want to install the Amazon MP3 Downloader without downloading any music, or if you want to upgrade to the latest version of the Amazon MP3 Downloader, visit the Amazon MP3 Downloader installation page. Click Install then proceed to step 2 below.
If prompted, choose Save to download the AmazonMP3DownloaderInstall.exe installer file.
Open the installer file by double-clicking the "AmazonMP3DownloaderInstall.exe" file in your "Downloads" window. This will start the installation process. If you don't see the "Downloads" window, follow these instructions to open it:
- Internet Explorer: Click the Tools option, then choose View Downloads.
- Google Chrome: Click the menu to the right of the address bar, then choose Downloads.
- Mozilla Firefox: Click the Tools menu, then choose Downloads.
Once you see a message instructing you to return to your browser, you have successfully installed the Amazon MP3 Downloader.
If your music does not begin downloading automatically, return to your web browser.
If you see the dialog box below, click Proceed to music download, then click Download your music in the subsequent dialog box.

If you are prompted to authorise your device to download music, click Authorise device.
If you are prompted to open or save an .amz file, choose Open. If you have the option, choose Do this automatically for files like this from now on to avoid these prompts in future.
The Amazon MP3 Downloader will launch and begin downloading your music. The Amazon MP3 Downloader will also import your music to your iTunes or Windows Media Player library, depending on your music download preferences.
If the Amazon MP3 Downloader imported your music into iTunes, iTunes may launch automatically.
You will also find your music in the Music > Amazon MP3 folder on your computer.
If you would like to change your music download preferences, open the Amazon MP3 Downloader, select File from the menu and click on Preferences. Select your preferred option in the dropdown menu under "When an item finish downloading…". Visit Download Options and Preferences to learn more.
Installing the Amazon MP3 Downloader for Mac
System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or higher running on Intel-based hardware
There are 3 ways to start the process of installing the Amazon MP3 Downloader for Mac:
Installing After a Purchase: After you complete a purchase, click Download to your computer from the Thank You purchase page. If prompted, choose Save File to download the AmazonMP3DownloaderInstall.dmg installer file. If you cannot find this option, click Window in the browser menu to access the dialog box.
Open the installer file by double-clicking the "AmazonMP3DownloaderInstall.dmg" file in your "Downloads" window. This will start the installation process. If you don't see the "Downloads" window, follow these instructions to open it:
- Safari: Click the View menu, then choose Show Downloads.
- Mozilla Firefox: Click the Tools menu, the choose Downloads.
- Google Chrome: Click the menu to the right of the address bar, then choose Downloads.
When the installer application opens, double click the Amazon MP3 Installer icon, then click Install to run the installation. The Amazon MP3 Downloader is a secure application. If you receive an alert asking if you are sure you want to open the application, click Open.
If you are prompted to enter your name and password to install new software, type in your information and click OK.
If you see a message instructing you to return to your browser, it means you have successfully installed the Amazon MP3 Downloader.
If your music does not begin downloading automatically, return to your web browser.
If you see the dialog box below, click Proceed to music download, then click Download your music in the subsequent dialog box.

If you are prompted to authorise your device to download music, click Authorise device.

The Amazon MP3 Downloader will launch and begin downloading your music. The Amazon MP3 Downloader will also import your music to iTunes, depending on your music download preferences.
If the Amazon MP3 Downloader imported your music into iTunes, iTunes may launch automatically.
You will also find your music in the Music > Amazon MP3 folder on your computer.

Uninstalling the Amazon MP3 Downloader
To uninstall the Amazon MP3 Downloader, follow the standard procedures for your computer:
- PC: Go to Programs in your Control Panel and select Uninstall Programs.
- Mac: Find the Amazon MP3 Downloader in the Applications folder and drag it to your Recycle Bin.
