Kindle Touch Software Update

We have a new, free software update available for Kindle Touch. The software update will be delivered wirelessly and includes an updated user interface and new features. This update automatically downloads and installs for Kindle Touch customers; however, you can also manually download the software and update your device via USB cable.

Note: To support the new features in this update, your Kindle Touch needs to re-index your content. During indexing, your Kindle Touch will require increased battery so we recommend connecting it to a power source. You may need to charge the battery more often than usual over the first day or two. If you have 30 books on your Kindle Touch, for example, it will take about 1 hour to create the index. Some content may be unsearchable until indexing is completed.

This software update includes the following new features:

  • A new user interface
  • Enhanced Parental Controls
  • Book Covers
  • Time-to-Read
  • Recommended Content
  • Enhanced book samples
  • Navigate graphic novels, and comics

Unable to search for content after updating Kindle Touch.

Your Kindle organises your content after updating the software. The time required for this may vary depending on the content you currently have stored on your device.

To support the new features in this update, your Kindle Touch needs to re-index your content in order to search your content. If you have 30 books on your Kindle Touch, for example, it will take about 1 hour to create the index. You will be able to search normally after the index is complete.

Plug your Kindle Touch into a power source. As your Kindle Touch creates the index, it may require more power for a day or two.

Update Your Kindle menu option in Settings is greyed out.

The update file is in the incorrect directory, or was not transferred successfully.

Plug your Kindle back into your computer and verify the update file is present in the root directory of your Kindle, not in a folder.
